The Farmer's Almanac predicts a long, frigid winter ahead for most of the United States.

The season will continue the chilly trends of last winter in many areas. Expect prolonged cold temperatures and wet weather throughout the U.S. and Canada. On the bright side, this means good news for drought-ridden California. Those in the South, who have already experienced plenty of rain after a continuous string of tropical storms and hurricanes, won't be as happy.
It's not all bad news, though. The Almanac predicts that the winter will be overall warmer than most years. Albeit, that's mostly thanks to the Midwest, which is supposedly the only region in the U.S. that will see a milder-than-average season.
While this winter won't be as cold on average, the Almanac warns that atmospheric activity could still make it chillier than currently expected. Today's meteorologists are quick to warn us that they're not the book's biggest fans. Since 1792, the Almanac has been using a secret formula that uses climatology and meteorology and other mysterious factors to determine what each winter will bring. Time will only tell if their predictions will actually come true.
