Fresh Express Salad Kits Recalled in 11 States Due to Potential Allergens

Check your bags of salad! Fresh Express is voluntarily recalling a limited amount of Fresh Express 11.5-ounce Southwest Chopped Kits with the production codes G163B10A and G163B10B, UPC code 0 71279 30602 5 and a use-by date of June 29. According to the FDA, the recall was called due to an undeclared presence of wheat, soy, cashews, and coconut which can cause allergic reactions, and for some, be deadly. The contamination happened when Fresh Express learned that during a production run incorrect condiment packets were placed in the bags.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, the recalled product was distributed between June 12 and June 18 in the states of Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Representatives of Fresh Express are currently working with retail stores to remove the affected Fresh Express product from store shelves. Customers who have the recalled salad mix should discard it immediately or return it to the grocery store. Customers may also call the Fresh Express Consumer Response Center toll-free at (800) 242-5472 Monday through Friday during the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time. with any questions.

This isn't the first time Fresh Express has had issues with food safety. In December 2019, the Food and Drug Administration put out a warning telling customers not to eat salad from the Salinas region in California. According to the CDC, eight people in three states (Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin) were infected with E. coli O157:H7, with the likely source being Fresh Express Sunflower Crisp chopped salad kits. Health officials note the romaine lettuce E.coli outbreak sickened over 167 people across 27 states. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published all their finding of the outbreak on their website.
