"We've been asked to tell you what we think the secret of a happy marriage is, because we've been at it for almost 18 years," Yearwood said to begin the clip, which aired Wednesday (Aug. 30) on GMA.
Things went playfully sideways quickly, with Brooks claiming that "One of you have to be f--king miserable." Match their dry sense of humor at all turns might've been a valid answer instead, with Yearwood adding, "That's right — and I'm not happy."
Yearwood clapped back again when Books threw out the "never go to bed mad at each other" trope, countering with a swift "did you Google that?"
Silliness aside, Brooks and Yearwood offered a sweet and credible reason, saying "marry your best friend" in unison.
During a June press conference regarding his TuneIn partnership, Brooks revealed that he vehemently shot down Yearwood's offer to legally change her name to Trisha Brooks.
"She was sweet enough for our anniversary last year to have the documents where her official last name was Brooks," Brooks said. "I declined it."
Brooks, who lovingly refers to his spouse as Ms. Yearwood, would rather buck conventions than endorse a name change.
"Jack Yearwood had two daughters: That Yearwood name is Trisha. I'd be fine changing my name to Yearwood," Brooks added. "Tradition doesn't count here. What counts is when you have two celebrities, don't have one swallow the other."
Conversation turned to Yearwood after Brooks got asked about her level of involvement in his upcoming TuneIn radio station, Big 615. Brooks told reporters that "you're talking to Trisha Yearwood right now" because she always plays a role in his personal and professional decisions.
