When you're shopping down the dairy aisle, do you reach for your trusty brand of Greek yogurt or are you a bargain hunter grabbing up what's on sale? Last time I shopped at the grocery store, I chose the latter option. Big mistake.

To prevent you from being disappointed like I was, I decided to put five popular Greek yogurt brands to the test to see which is the best Greek yogurt around. Take a look to see how they ranked. You might just find a new favorite brand that's better than the ones you've had. Some popular brands that didn't make the cut include Stonyfield organic, Dannon Oikos, Siggi, Maple Hill, and Yoplait.
5. Dannon Light & Fit Greek Yogurt
Is this Greek yogurt? Judging by the consistency, you'd easily be fooled. This popular brand tastes more like regular yogurt, artificial sweeteners, and all. While it might fool you into thinking you're eating healthy since it's promoted as low-calorie and low-fat, or should I say no fat, research suggests yogurt with full-fat content is better than nonfat or fat-free yogurt. Do yourself a favor, reap in the health benefits, probiotics, and flavor with another brand.
4. Zoi Greek Yogurt
A tub of Greek yogurt on sale for $2.50? How could I pass that up? Well, I sort of wish I had. The Zio Greek yogurt brand left me wanting more. Although it was whole milk Greek yogurt, it had a semi-grainy texture and was a little on the watery side. It wasn't exactly the creamy tub of yogurt my taste buds were hoping for. Next time, I'll pass on the sale and go with my staple Greek-style yogurt.
3. Chobani Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt

This is like the gateway Greek yogurt. You see this brand everywhere and someone at one point has told you of the creamy goodness. The texture and flavor, however, are middle of the road when compared to other brands which is why it ranked in at #3. Not bad, but not the best.
2. The Greek Gods Traditional
While the packaging may be a bit over-the-top, I will happily spend $5 on a tub of The Greek Gods. Good texture, balanced flavor, and hits the spot. It has the right amount of creaminess with a smooth mouthfeel. I like to pile some blueberries on top and drizzle on a little honey for a healthy high-protein morning treat or post-workout snack.
1. Fage Total Plain Greek Yogurt
This stuff is thick, Greek yogurt thick, and the winner of the Greek yogurt tasting challenge. Its balance of sour and creamy is precisely what you want in a Greek yogurt. One spoonful and you'll be tempted to keep on eating it like a pint of your favorite Ben & Jerry's ice cream. That's how good it is. Made from milk and live active cultures, this stuff is pure so you can enjoy eating to a healthy lifestyle spoonful by spoonful. I recommend putting a bowl of this on your daily to-do list.
