Stefani's return will mark her sixth season as a coach for the reality TV show, which is where she initially met Shelton. Speaking With NBC Insider about her special return, the signer stated, "Stepping back on the set of The Voice this time was very surreal," she noted. "Being married, it brought back so many memories of all the different seasons that we've been on The Voice together, all the different phases of our friendship, of our relationship."
Stefani was a coach during seasons 7, 9, 12, 17, and 19, with Shelton being an original coach since season 1! "It was just kinda easy and flawless and normal," she continued. "It just feels like we're anywhere else we'd be together. And I have a lot of fun with him here."
Shelton is equally as excited as his bride to have her next to his side, saying he was excited to compete next to Stefani. "The best part about working with my wife is that I never have to be apart from her," Shelton stated. "And she also happens to be one of the least competitive people I know. Being on a competition show with your wife, who is also not competitive, is the greatest situation you can be in."
Cabello also spoke about the opportunity to work with the "No Doubt" singer on The Voice, saying she admired her as an artist. "I look up to Gwen Stefani so much, I mean in so many ways," Cabello said. "She represents the kind of artist I want to be. I feel like she has been kind of genre-defying and genre-less and expectation-defying...I feel like I wanna take notes from her. She's such a cool artist and so authentic."
Season 22 is set to air on Monday and Tuesday nights, debuting on September 19 and 8 pm ET.
