First time using a pie iron? Follow these steps to keep it seasoned and ready to go the next time a hankering for a pie iron recipe hits your lips.

  1. Clean the pie iron with soap and water then let dry completely.
  2. Coat the pie iron with vegetable oil or cooking spray, then place the pie iron over an open flame fire pit for 15 minutes. Remove from the fire and wipe out the oil. Repeat the step, coating the iron in oil then placing over the campfire for 15 minutes. Let cool, recoat in oil, then you should be good to go.
