Homemade Cold Brew Coffee

Homemade Cold Brew Coffee

There are plenty of reasons to make your own cold brew. It's hella refreshing in the summer, way less acidic than hot coffee, and super easy to make.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 12 hours 5 minutes
Servings 1 gallon

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb coarsely ground coffee beans (About 2 2/3 cups)
  • 1 gallon filtered water

Instructions

  • Add the coffee grounds to a large, sealable container, then pour the water over. Stir to make sure all the coffee grounds have gotten wet, then seal and let steep for 12 hours.
  • Once steeping's over, set up your filter. A mesh filter with a coffee filter resting in it should do the trick of catching all the smaller bits, but it will be a little slow going. Pour as much of the unfiltered cold brew over the double filter, then let it rest to drip out. Use a spoon to help it along, if desired.
  • Depending on your love of caffeine, the finished coffee concentrate can be enjoyed on it's own with some ice, mixed equal parts with water, or with a splash of cream.

Notes

Note: If you used a finer ground coffee, like what you get at the store, don't fret, just let it steep for closer to 8 hours instead of 12, unless you're really hankering for that extra caffeine.
