Miranda Lambert Fights Back Tears While Performing 'The House That Built Me'

Country superstar Miranda Lambert's first live concert since the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic halted her Wildcard tour in March 2020 took an emotional turn as she sang her platinum-selling hit "The House That Built Me."

The Thursday (April 23) set kicked off Lambert's three-night stay at Fort Worth's historic honky tonk Billy Bob's Texas.

Concert goer and Twitter user Alex Ayers shot footage that captures when the home state gig left Lambert in tears.

"We get to 'House That Built Me' ... everything was going very smoothly. She got through the first verse and as soon as she got to the words, 'the house that built me," she couldn't get it out," Ayers wrote (as quoted by Taste of Country).

Before she became a Nashville star, Lambert regularly appeared at Billy Bob's, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary as a country music mecca throughout its current show calendar.

Lambert's fresh off multiple 2021 ACM Awards performances, including a show-opening duet with Elle King. She's also prepping for the May 7 release of The Marfa Tapes, a collaborative album with fellow Texas-bred songwriters Jack Ingram and Jon Randall.

Though April 23 marked Lambert's first socially-distanced show as a headliner, it wasn't Lambert's first appearance at Billy Bob's this year. She'd recently joined Kid Rock and Sam Williams there to help Hank Williams Jr. sing "Family Tradition."

The third single off her third album Revolution (2009), "The House That Built Me" became Lambert's fastest-rising hit and her first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country chart. It won a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. It was also nominated for Song Of The Year and Best Country Song Grammys.
