Back in 2009, Dave Asprey (a health enthusiast and blogger) traveled to Tibet to go hiking. During his trip, he encountered something the locals called "Yak milk." It was basically a butter coffee that was super calorie dense, fueling the body for long days of hiking. He brought the concept back to the States and called it Bulletproof coffee (BPC).

What is bulletproof coffee?

At its most basic, BPC is a coffee recipe that blends hot coffee with MCT oil and grass-fed butter (preferably, unsalted butter). Some people buy pure MCT oil (like Brain Octane) while others use coconut oil, which has naturally occurring medium chain triglycerides (MCT). The basic concept is these healthy-fats will fuel physiologic function in the brain.

It has become really popular amongst the Paleo and Keto diet crowd because they're looking for foods that are low carb and have high fat content. People drinking BPC claim that the combination of the caffeine and the healthy fats set them up for success. They report everything from improved mood, superior brain function, increased strength, improved metabolism, stabilized gut health, and weight loss.

The Benefits and How-To Guide to BPC

We love these infographics that detail BPC's benefits and the basic bulletproof coffee recipe:  8-ounces of organic coffee blended with MCT (or coconut oil) and butter from grass-fed cows. They also compare the different kinds of butter and MCT oil choices.

Now that you know how to make it, let us know if it worked for you! We'd love to get some first-hand feedback about whether this miracle coffee really does improve concentration and promote weight-loss.
