Hush Puppies with Cajun Dipping Sauce
There's nothing better than biting into a hot and tender hush puppy. These Hush Puppies are served with a Cajun Dipping Sauce. Yum!
Ingredients
For The Hush Puppies
- 1 cup yellow cornmeal
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- Vegetable oil for deep frying
For The Cajun Sauce
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 2 tsp honey
- 1 tsp cajun seasoning
Instructions
For The Hush Puppies
- In a large bowl combine the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt and stir. Stir in the egg, milk, and chopped onion until combined.
- Meanwhile in a dutch oven heat about 2 inches of oil to 350ºF. When the oil is ready drop the batter by spoonfuls into the oil. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
For The Cajun Sauce
- In a small bowl combine the sour cream, lemon, honey, and cajun seasoning. Serve with the hush puppies.
Notes
Serve the hush puppies warm for the best texture.
This cajun sauce makes a great accompaniment to shrimp and fish as well.
