Jimmy Buffett's Sister Revealed His On-Brand Last Words to Her

Jimmy Buffett said farewell to his sister in fitting fashion.

Per an essay written by Jimmy Buffett's sister Lucy "LuLu" Buffett for the Key West Citizen, the "Margaritaville" singer-songwriter spread nothing but positive vibes shortly before his passing.

"We had a beautiful goodbye visit earlier in the week," LuLu wrote "He had my grandfather's twinkle in his eye to the end and he was very clear that the music, the party and the good life was to continue with his robust optimism in tow."

LuLu shared that her eldest sibling — they also have a sister named Laurie "LaLa" Buffett — stayed positive throughout his four-year battle with skin cancer.

"He was the best person I know that could 'breathe in, breathe out and move on' after hard news," LuLu wrote.

Near the end of her essay, LuLu revealed her brother's final words to her.

"He didn't care about resting in peace," she wrote. "The last words he whispered to me were, 'Have fun.'"

Jimmy died on Sept. 1 at age 76. He is survived by his wife Jane and their children Savannah, Sarah and Cameron.

"Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of [Sept. 1] surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs," a statement on social media said. "He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many."

The singer-songwriter was hospitalized earlier this year, writing "growing old is not for sissies" in a message to fans.

A prolific singer-songwriter whose devoted fanbase dubbed themselves "Parrotheads," he was best known for his timeless song "Margaritaville," a 1977 smash hit that would inspire an empire — restaurants, resorts, clothing, food and beverages and more — as well as a lifestyle.

Kenny Chesney's career alone proves Jimmy's impact on country music, despite the future soft rock standout struggling to find success decades earlier while living in Nashville.
