There are locations throughout Austin, from South Lamar Street to Kerbey Lane. Although the exact opening date of the new location is yet to be announced, it is "coming soon," and will be located at 5515 N Loop 1604 W, near Velvet Taco. The restaurant is tentatively planned to open in March 2022, bringing a new lunch spot to San Marcos.
Kerbey Lane Cafe opened in 1980 and has been a staple for University of Texas students ever since. The family owned restaurant's menu is filled with a variety of dishes, from breakfast platters to tasty sides and starters like hummus avocado toast and tamarind glazed Brussels.
Kerbey Lane Cafe Menu
The breakfast menu includes omelets, breakfast tacos, the Mexican classic migas, and other yummy options like the French toast platter. It's also accessible for vegans and gluten-free eaters, offering vegan pancakes, a tofu scramble, and a number gluten free dishes. Plus, veggie chorizo can be added to many dishes.
There's also a seasonal pancake and a monthly special, making for a yummy rotation of options. The seasonal one is currently lemon poppy seed, and the monthly special is buttermilk pancakes with peaches baked inside, and topped with candied peach filling and cinnamon crumble. (yum!)
As for lunch and dinner time, you can choose from delectable comfort food options like the BBQueso pork and BBQ sauce sandwich, Chipotle beer battered fish & chips, and enchiladas. For many of these, you can choose between homemade potato chips, sweet potato fries and French fries as the side.
The best part of the menu, though, is the queso. There's an entire queso menu, full of delectable options! From the famous Kerbey Queso to the cowboy queso, just the descriptions have me craving warm cheesy queso and crispy tortilla chips for dipping.
Those living in San Antonio will soon be able to enjoy all the queso, Tex-Mex and vegan options they could ever want at the new Kerbey Lane Cafe!
