The Sandwich wars are raging on. Fried chicken sandwiches are a hot ticket item this year from KFC. The fast-food chain released a Cheetos chicken sandwich earlier this year as well as a beyond meat sandwich in a test market. Now, in lieu of the chicken sandwich war between Chick-fil-A and Popeye's, Kentucky Fried Chicken is adding another contender to the ring: the KFC Chicken and Donuts Sandwich. Heck yes.
KFC Tests New Chicken and Donuts Sandwiches
Sweet and salty is one of the best combinations in the world and this new menu item is no exception. For a limited time, KFC will be testing out the savory chicken sandwich in Virginia (including select locations in Richmond, Virginia Beach, and Norfolk) as well as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
According to Business Insider, the fast-food chain will sell two doughnut items, a basket that included either bone or chicken tenders served with one or two donuts, and a donut sandwich filled with a crispy chicken filet. The donut basket meal costs $5.50 for one donut and $7.50 for two while the chicken and donuts sandwich costs $6, and as a combo, $8. Customers can also add a donut to any meal for only $1.
Why yes, I do live in Pittsburgh and tried the new @kfc donut chicken sandwich.
And it was absolutely, positively, delicious. It was worth the 3 weeks of life I had to give up to eat it. pic.twitter.com/wNHlHECbrB

This isn't the first time someone has thought of sticking a piece of fried chicken between two donuts, but if this test is successful, KFC will be the first to bring it nationally. Locally, places like Sam's Fried Chicken & Donuts in Houston, and HenDough Chicken & Donuts in Hendersonville, North Carolina, already serve up this sticky sweet sandwich. Sam's serves theirs with a bacon marmalade while HenDough piles on American cheese, extra crispy bacon, and tomato on their donuts.
All I know is, I wish I lived closer to Virginia so I could taste one of these KFC chicken and donut sandwiches myself.
