This trailer is much darker than the first one, with bells ringing ominously over shots of the Osage tribe first dancing in celebration around an oil well, then turning up dead all over the place. It also shows Robert De Niro as a treacherous schemer with a disquieting ability to appear more than cordial toward the indigenous people he means to eradicate.
Based on David Grann's gripping bestseller and brought to life by Scorsese and Eric Roth, the true story takes us back to the 1920s in the heart of Oklahoma. It was a time when the discovery of oil turned the Osage Nation into overnight millionaires. But with newfound riches came trouble, as opportunistic outsiders descended upon them, resorting to manipulation, extortion, and, ultimately, murder to get their hands on Osage wealth.
Scorsese has masterfully crafted this tale into a sprawling 3-hour and 26-minute Western crime saga, making it one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year, right in the midst of awards season. The film had its grand debut earlier this year at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
The star-studded cast includes Jesse Plemons, Cara Jade Myers, JaNae Collins, Jillian Dion, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, Brendan Fraser, William Belleau, Louis Cancelmi, Tatanka Means, Michael Abbot Jr., Pat Healy, Scott Shepard, Jason Isbell, and Sturgill Simpson, adding to the excitement.
Apple is joining forces with Paramount for a worldwide release, opting to skip the original platform-release plan. While it will initially hit theaters, you can expect it to eventually land on Apple TV+.
Behind the scenes, Martin Scorsese, Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Daniel Lupi take on producer roles, representing Apple Studios, Imperative Entertainment, Sikelia Productions, and Appian Way. Executive producers include DiCaprio, Rick Yorn, Adam Sommer, Marianne Bower, Lisa Frechette, John Atwood, Shea Kammer, and Niels Juul.
