Kool-Aid Is Bringing Back Retro Flavors

It's not snack time without a pitcher of Kool-Aid! Invented in 1927 by Edwin Perkins in Chicago, Illinois, Kool-Aid as always been a staple in the American household. Sold as an unsweetened powdered drink mix, large multi-serve jugs, or individual juice pouches, called Jammers, there are multiple ways to enjoy your favorite flavor whether you are in charge of the soccer snack or sitting in your backyard with your feet up.

Two Favorite Kool-Aid Flavors Are Coming Back

Throughout the years the Kool-aid Man has shared a variety of different flavors. Along with the original six (Cherry, Grape, Lemon-Lime, Orange, Raspberry, and Strawberry), the soft drink has been available in delicious flavors like Tropical Punch, Pink Lemonade, Black Cherry, Green Apple, Mango, and Strawberry Kiwi.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the marketing department got creative with their flavors and introduced Sharkleberry Fin, Purplesaurus Rex, Rock-a-Dile Red, and Great Bluedini. Some of the Kool-Aid drink mixes gained a cult following, and when Purplesaurus Rex and Rock-a-Dile Red Kool-Aid packets were discontinued, many consumers begged Kraft to bring back their favorite flavors.

It's been a while, but Purplesaurus Rex and Rock-a-Dile Red are back and better than ever. According to Delish, Retro Kool-Aid will be crashing into stores later this year. Purplesaurus Rex is a mix of grape and lemonade while Rock-a-Dile Red is a sweet fruit punch flavor. Oh yeah!

There's no word on if Kraft is planning to add more flavors to their retro line, but if you love the stuff, there are lots of other places to find and enjoy your favorite flavors. You can make your way to Hastings, Nebraska for their annual Kool-Aid Days celebration. Along with a Kool-Aid drinking competition, the 3-day celebration features a car show, inflatable rides, photo ops with your favorite soft drink mascot, and the World's largest Kool-Aid stand.
