Krispy Kreme has launched some pretty rad doughnuts this past year including their Lemon Glazed Doughnut, heart-shaped conversation doughnuts, and even green-tinted doughnuts to celebrate the luck of the Irish. But unlike the other doughnuts which were only available for a limited time, the new original filled doughnuts will be permanently available at all American Krispy Kreme locations.

Initially, the brand has released two flavors: Classic Kreme and Chocolate Kreme to celebrate the monumental event.

According to Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation, Krispy Kreme was on site during the launch of Apollo 11.

"Krispy Kreme was at the launch of Apollo 11, serving fresh doughnuts to Americans witnessing liftoff of this monumental mission. As America prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, we want to give our fans a new taste experience that is out of this world. We choose to fill our Original Glazed® doughnuts, not because it is easy, but because it is hard (no disrespect intended, JFK). Actually... it's not hard, it's melt-in-your-mouth delicious."

In other Krispy Kreme news, the doughnut giant is in the midst of opening up a giant flagship store in Times Square in 2020. The 4,500-square-foot store will be open 24-hours a day and will give customers a chance to watch the doughnut making process from start to finish.
