Lauren Alaina to Compete on 'Dancing With the Stars'

Country music will be represented once again on ABC's popular competition series Dancing with The Stars. "Ladies in the '90s" singer Lauren Alaina will compete in season 28 against NFL legend Ray Lewis, supermodel Christie Brinkley, Supremes member Mary Wilson, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer and seven other celebrities from the worlds of sports, music and television.

The new season's Sept. 16 debut comes nearly 10 months since country radio personality Bobby Bones won the prior season. ABC skipped a spring series for the first time since the show debuted in fall 2006.

To celebrate the big news, Alaina added to her pun-filled Twitter history. "Mirror, Mirror on the ball. Surprise!!," she wrote, tagging the series' Twitter account and including a fun photo shoot.

Alaina's attempt to keep the series' first place prize in Nashville continues a long legacy of country singers on the show, including Season 16 winner Kellie Pickler and past contestants Sara Evans, Billy Ray Cyrus, Wynonna Judd, Jana Kramer and John Schneider.

It won't be Alaina's first experience on a reality competition series. She was the runner-up to fellow country star Scotty McCreery on the 10th season of American Idol. The 2011 series took her from tiny Rossville, Ga., where she grew up with future duet partner Kane Brown, to her current major label run with Mercury Nashville.

As for her singing career, Alaina has several headlining dates lined up in September and October, including appearances at Nashville's Exit/In on Oct. 23 and 25.
