Lone Star Beer Debuts Special Texas Independence Day Cans

Saying that Texans are proud of their history is a little like noting that the sky is blue (and of course, that sky is bigger and bluer in Texas). So, to honor Texas Independence Day on March 2, Lone Star Brewing Company is introducing a special "Come and Take It" design on all its cans sold throughout Texas markets.

The commemorative design features a phrase that should be well known to all Texans. On October 2, 1835, about 140 Texans bearing a flag with the image of a cannon (an actual cannon the Mexican government wanted back) and the words "Come and Take It" fought Mexican troops at Gonzales in what was the opening salvo of the Texas Revolution.

"Lone Star Beer is "The National Beer of Texas" and we are always true to our roots," said Elkin Vasco, Lone Star Beer brand manager. "Whether we're participating in local events, welcoming out-of-towners, or helping out neighbors, everything we do shows our pride in being a true Texas beer. We can't think of a better way to continue this tradition than by celebrating Texas Independence Day with the iconic 'Come and Take It' slogan on our cans."

The brewing company is producing more than 10 million "Come and Take It" cans of Lone Star Beer and Lone Star Light in 12 oz., 16 oz. and 24 oz. sizes, so you shouldn't have any problem finding them anywhere Lone Star Beer is sold in the state.

The company plans to promote Texas Independence Day throughout the month with many of its supporting retail partners in Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin.

Lone Star Brewing was built in San Antonio, Texas, in 1883 and was the first large mechanized brewery in Texas. The company was acquired by the Pabst Brewing Company in 1999.

Over the years, Lone Star Beer has been featured in numerous movies and television shows, including Urban Cowboy and True Detective, where Matthew McConaughey can be seen drinking Lone Star. Lone Star was also the beer of choice for Tim Riggins—Taylor Kitsch actually drank Lone Star beer in his audition for Friday Night Lights.

Texas forever, y'all.
