While the "Coal Miner's Daughter" singer calls Brooks' decision "classic, humble Garth," she says the 7-time Entertainer of the Year winner has earned every accolade and deserves to win more.

"I've thought a lot about @garthbrooks stepping down from being considered for CMA Entertainer of the Year. That's classic, humble Garth but I think he's wrong on this one!" Lynn wrote on Instagram. "He's won it 7 times because he earned it! In my book, he's earned it 20 times over and deserves to win it anytime they count the votes up and he's on top. He's worked his heart out and you can mark it down that I'm his biggest fan. I hope CMA ignores his request! Love you, honey."

Brooks made the announcement during an online press conference on Wednesday, July 29.

"It's time for somebody else to hold that award," Brooks said.

The singer said it was a message on social media that influenced his decision.

'There's one tweet in there that really stuck in my head," Brooks said. "It said, 'Hey, man. This guy, why doesn't he just step down [and leave] the entertainer for the next generation?' 100% agree."

Last year, Brooks won the Entertainer of the Year award over Carrie Underwood, Eric Church, Keith Urban and Chris Stapleton.

Loretta Lynn became the first woman to win Entertainer of the Year in 1972. She named her next album, featuring "Rated X," Entertainer of the Year.
