Tim McGraw, Chris Janson and Mark Collie joined forces to channel the late, great Merle Haggard during a little downtime from their Soul2Soul World Tour.
Janson was an opener for selected dates on the tour, and acclaimed singer-songwriter Collie is a longtime friend of McGraw's. The trio each took a verse on the beloved song, staying true to the original rendition. It's hard for anyone to sing "Mama Tried" without it sounding like a karaoke version, but that's also part of its charm. No one will quite be able to fill the shoes of Haggard, so you might as well have a little fun with it.
McGraw has released multiple backstage jam videos over the past few months as he and wife Faith Hill continue their Soul2Soul World Tour. Breakthrough band Midland joined McGraw for a cover of Alabama's "Dixieland Delight." Fellow opening act Charlie Worsham also put his take on Glen Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" while backstage.
You can catch McGraw out on the Soul2Soul World Tour through the end of the month with opening acts LOCASH and Margo Price. Check out his full list of upcoming concert dates here.
