Texas native Cody Jinks might have started out his music career in metal, but he's certainly found his niche in country music. Jinks recently released a brand new song, "Must Be the Whiskey," giving listeners no doubt that this outlaw will continue to unveil instant hits.
It only takes a mere moment of hearing Jinks' deep voice to pull you into his lyrics bemoaning a fight between his head, his heart and his alcohol intake. While Jinks contends with what he should have or could have done to nurture a past love instead of drowning it in Jim Beam, he also realizes he's his own unreliable narrator, and it could have just been lust all along.
"Must Be the Whiskey" marks the first official single off of Jinks' upcoming new album Lifers, but it isn't the first track we've heard from of the album. In January, Jinks premiered "Can't Quit Enough" live at a show in New Orleans. Through the wordy boogie, Jinks takes listeners to the dance floor with lyrics about being a traveling musician who just can't quit his Southern rock lifestyle.

Jinks' eighth studio album, Lifers, will be released on July 27 as the first album Jinks has cut with Rounder Records based out of Nashville. It will follow up his 2016 hit record I'm Not the Devil, which made it onto Rolling Stone's list of Best Country Albums of 2016 and reached No. 4 on the Top Country Albums chart (an incredible feat as an independent artist.) Lifers is already available for presale online.
In addition to releasing a new album this summer, Jinks is also putting together his first Loud and Heavy Fest, featuring Colter Wall, the Sword, Corrosion of Conformity, Whitey Morgan and Jinks himself playing for a Fort Worth crowd full of people with a love for country and rock music.
