The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that there is a recall of about 10,839 raw poultry products that may be contaminated with outside materials. Specifically, FSIS issued the recall over the concern of metal found packaged in the raw chicken products. The chicken in question comes from Empire Kosher Poultry, Inc., located in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania.

The poultry products in question were packaged on November 2, 2017, and there are five specific products that are subject to recall. Trader Joe's, specifically, has issued a recall on their Empire Kosher Natural Chicken Breasts Boneless & Skinless sold only in Colorado, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas stores.
Per the FSIS announcement, these are the products to check your refrigerator for.
- 4 to 5.25-lbs. tray packages containing chicken breasts labeled "Empire KOSHER NATURAL Chicken Breasts, Boneless & Skinless" with case code 46375 and "Sell By" date 11/14/17.
- 1 to 1.25-lbs. tray packages containing chicken breasts labeled "Empire KOSHER NATURAL Chicken Breasts, Boneless & Skinless" with case code 7488 and "Sell By" date 11/16/17.
- 2.5-lbs. tray packages containing chicken breasts labeled "Empire KOSHER NATURAL Chicken Breasts, Boneless & Skinless" with case code 7598 and "Sell By" date11/16/17.
- 1 to 1.25-lbs. tray packages containing chicken breasts labeled "Empire KOSHER NATURAL Chicken Breasts, Boneless & Skinless" with case code 92615 and "Sell By" date 11/17/17.
- 1 to 1.25-lbs. tray packages containing chicken breasts labeled "Empire KOSHER NATURAL Chicken Breasts, Boneless & Skinless" with case code 7888 and "Sell By" date 11/16/17.
All products will contain establishment number "P-105" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the packaging. The metal materials were discovered on November 2, 2017 by an employee who observed metal foreign material in a chicken breast.
There have no reports of injury or illness as a result of consuming this product. All potentially affected products have been removed from store shelves, and all customers are encouraged to return their chicken breasts to the point of sale or thrown away immediately.
