Are these Self-Chilling Cans the Future of Drinking?

Have you ever had a room temperature beer and thought to yourself, wouldn't it be great if this can could chill itself? That's precisely where the canning industry may be headed. Ending the need to refrigerate or store cans in the cooler, Chill-Can chills itself.

Chill-can works like this. The cans are stored at ambient temperature. Then come time for drinking, place the can on a flat surface face-down. Now, twist the bottom and wait for the hissing sound to stop. By doing so you activate the patented technology involving a heat exchange unit and reclaimed CO2 that instantly cools the can - which is an EPA award winning process. Once the hissing stops, you can enjoy your beverage.

After spending two decades dialing in on the technology, The Joseph Company International Inc. is releasing the first and only on-demand chill can to the public. Partnering with 7-Eleven, they will introduce the convenience store's proprietary coffee called Fizzics Sparkling Cold Brew Coffee as the first product to be sold in the Chill-Cans. According to the press release, 15 7-Eleven stores in the Los Angeles area have been chosen for the test launch.

If all goes according to plan, we could see a movement in the beverage industry that sparks a self-chilling technology trend. Beer, coffee, soda, and any other beverage that comes in can form all have the potential to be cooled down instantly. And you know what that means? No more stopping to get ice for a cooler full of beer when you're on the way to the river. Stashing sodas in the garage refrigerator. No more lukewarm anything. This is a new level of chilled drinks.

While we have yet to see if the self-chilling can technology becomes the norm, I for one am willing to give it a try. I can't tell you how many times I've enjoy La Croix or canned beer at room temperature, wishing it was just a bit cooler. And I'm sure I'm not alone in this matter.

So move over blue Rockies, you're color changing can technology has nothing on this self-chilling beverage.
