This Austin Baker Makes 'Squee'-Worthy Macarons

Squee is defined as the sound an over-excited fangirl makes, or the action of squealing with glee. With OMG Squee, Austinite Sarah Lim is certainly generating squeals of delight from her customers with her macaron creations that are beyond adorable.

Macarons, small cookies which consist of almond powder, sugar and egg whites, are not easy to make. The French treat is known to be finicky, and also for its pastel colors and round shape. It is usually made with a buttercream or jam filling between two of the meringue cookies.

OMG Squee macarons are designed with kawaii in mind. Kawaii is the Japanese word for cute, as well as a whole Japanese culture focused on the essence of cute. Think Hello Kitty and Sushi Cat, or the kyaraben bento boxes created to make kid's lunch boxes visually fun.

Lim's macarons are the epitome of cute: little brightly colored edible bites made to look like characters and pop culture icons.

From a valentine to Queen Bey to Kitty Stardust, each cookie is piped and decorated by hand.

Lim notes that it is a labor intensive process, but it's important because she believes the look of the food is just as important as the taste.

The flavors and shapes are influenced by Lim's Texas and Asian American roots. Cookies shaped like Willie Nelson sold out quickly and the Beyonce macarons, well, slayed.

And if you can wait until next Christmas, you might find a minty chocolate chip Abominable Snowman macaron.
