While I love most of the skits on Saturday Night Live, I think the unsung heroes of the comedy show are the fake commercials. Mom Jeans, Dissing Your Dog, and Shake Weight are all classics, but when it comes to fake restaurant commercials, Taco Town starring Andy Samberg, Bill Hader, and Jason Sudeikis takes the cake, er, taco. Whether you're a steak taco, chicken taco, taco salad, burrito, cheese enchilada, or quesadilla fan, it's pretty hard not to love the resulting culinary fare from this skit.

SNL's Taco Town Skit
The skit starts as the three actors sit in a Mexican restaurant eating tacos. Sudeikis remarks, "Can tacos get any more kick-butt than this?" prompting the narrator to intervene and show the fellas what a real taco is, complete with ground beef, nacho cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a southwestern sauce.
The "real" taco sounds very reminiscent of classic fast food from Taco Bell. All that's missing is the sour cream. And while this seems like a decent taco, the skit gets crazier and goes on to create the best taco, and possibly most extreme.
The beef taco is wrapped in a flour tortilla with refried beans, then wrapped in a savory corn tortilla loaded with Monterey jack cheese. A deep-fried gordita shell topped with guacamole is next, followed by a corn husk filled with pico de Gallo. Then comes a french crepe loaded with egg, gruyere, sausage, and portobello mushrooms. This is wrapped in a Chicago-style deep-dish sausage pizza, rolled in a blueberry pancake, dipped in batter and fried until golden brown. It's then served in a commemorative tote bag filled with spicy vegetarian chili.
In our view, all that's missing is some jalapeno, hot sauce, and cilantro.
But is it actually great food?
Binging with Babish Recreates Taco Town Taco
One man decided to test it for himself. Andrew Rea, also known as Oliver Babish, runs the highly popular YouTube channel, Binging with Babish. For his 1 million subscriber celebration, Babish decided to make the monstrosity taco complete with homemade crepes and pancakes. And of course, he deep fried the whole thing.
After frying it for 20 minutes, he cut the taco in half and took a bite, surprised that the thing actually tasted good. In fact, he shared it with his friends and they all enjoyed it too, spicy vegetarian chili and all. It might not be typical Mexican food, but it doesn't seem like anyone's complaining.
