Taylor Swift to Perform on ACM Awards for the First Time in 7 Years

Taylor Swift once dominated the Academy of Country Music awards (ACMs), becoming a nine-time ACM Award winner. In that span, she won Entertainer of the Year twice, tying her with Carrie Underwood for the most times a woman has taken home the show's top prize.

Swift has since gone seven years without performing on CBS' ACM Awards show broadcast-- a streak that ends this Wednesday, Sept. 16 when the pop megastar performs on the Grand Ole Opry House stage.

It'll be the world premiere performance of "Betty," a folk-inspired song from the album Folklore. Swift's new album has been dominating the Billboard 200 albums chart in recent weeks.

It'll be the first performance on television of any song from Folklore, which should boost the number of Swifties watching the broadcast.

Swift announced the news on Sunday (Sept. 13) via social media with a Tweet that simply read: "Bout to show up at your party @ACMawards."

Swift's homecoming doubles as the first time the ACM awards will be held in Nashville. The Keith Urban-hosted event was originally slated for a spring date in Las Vegas, but it got moved due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Before the changed date forced the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards to be hosted at the Ryman Auditorium, Grand Ole Opry House and the Bluebird Cafe, Nashville had hosted more Grammy award ceremonies (once, in 1973) than ACM presentations. Over the last 55 years, the ACMs have been hosted in California, Texas and Nevada.

Other performers on the Sept. 16 broadcast include country stars Trisha Yearwood, Gabby Barrett, Old Dominion, Kane BrownMiranda LambertTim McGrawLuke CombsMaren MorrisKelsea BalleriniDan + ShayFlorida Georgia Line and the team of Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.

Pure speculation, but what if this all sets the stage for Swift to be on hand when Underwood potentially breaks their shared record as a two-time ACM Entertainer of the Year? For this to happen, Underwood will have to win in a stacked field which includes Eric Church, Luke Combs, Thomas Rhett and Luke Bryan.

Winners so far of ACM awards include Songwriter of the Year Hillary Lindsey, New Male Artist of the Year Riley Green and New Female Artist of the Year Tenille Townes.
