Before their popular collaboration on "Say Something", Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake took the world by storm while covering George Jones' "Tennessee Whiskey" during the 2015 CMA Awards. In 2017, one unsuspecting dad became a viral star for his cover of the very same country music tune.

In a music video posted to the YouTube channel Daylafulla, Texas dad Kris Jones pours his heart out in his very own "Carpool Karaoke" version of the track.
Unlike other "Tennessee Whiskey" covers, Kris' rendition is simple. He simply sits in his truck singing the blues while his then-15-year-old daughter Dayla films her dad's famous Home Depot parking lot performance. Needless to say, Kris' voice does the heavy lifting, taking on all the vocal runs with ease. We'd still like to see him on The Voice's Team Blake or watch him get feedback from American Idol's Luke Bryan because this cover shows enough talent to impress George Jones himself.

While Stapleton's take on the song may still be the most famous, this Texan's is just as memorable. Throughout the entirety of the song, Kris' daughter gleefully mouths along while she films. You can tell just how much she admires her talented dad!
Written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove, "Tennessee Whiskey" was previous released by country music artist David Allan Coe. He brought the track to No. 77 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart back in 1981. After songwriter Chris Stapleton recorded it for his album "Traveller," it once again became a major hit in the United States.
The "Tennessee Whiskey" Dad's brush with fame found him and his daughter on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Kris was also profiled by the Dallas Morning News, which allowed him to bravely explain how singing Garth Brooks' "The Thunder Rolls" and other favorites helped him pull through a jail sentence.
Kris has since released an EP of songs, including a version of "Tennessee Whiskey." He's also posted videos of his covers of R&B classic "Stand By Me," Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man," Brett Young's "In Case You Didn't Know" and a duet of Keith Urban's "Blue Ain't Your Color" featuring Dayla.

So who knows? Maybe the time will come when people will be covering one of Jones' songs the way he covered American classic, "Tennessee Whiskey." Or maybe he'll get his own Justin Timberlake collaboration to climb the top country songs chart.

"Tennessee Whiskey" Lyrics:
I used to spend my nights out in a barroom
Liquor was the only love I've known
But you rescued me from reachin' for the bottom
And brought me back from being too far gone
You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
You're as sweet as strawberry wine
You're as warm as a glass of brandy
And honey, I stay stoned on your love all the time
I've looked for love in all the same old places
Found the bottom of a bottle always dry
But when you poured out your heart I didn't waste it
'Cause there's nothing like your love to get me high
You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
You're as sweet as strawberry wine
You're as warm as a glass of brandy
And honey, I stay stoned on your love all the time
You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
You're as sweet as strawberry wine
You're as warm as a glass of brandy
And honey, I stay stoned on your love all the time
You're as smooth as Tennessee whiskey
