KP Hawthorn says the song is an anthem for women who set out on the path less traveled despite any obstacles that may stand in her way.
"As a female in the world, it's true that we are often expected to follow a certain path. 'Rebel Road' was written as an anthem for those who blaze their own trail and decide how to walk it," Hawthorn tells Wide Open Country. "We don't always know our destination, but we are always sure it feels right when we are finally there."

The California-based duo formed in Los Angeles, following their respective solo careers. KP (formerly Kirsten Proffitt) released her solo album Lucky Girl in 2006. She's also toured with Jaime Wyatt and Manda Mosher as the country trio CALICO. Johnny Hawthorn previously performed with Toad the Wet Sprocket and Everclear.
