'The Voice': This 19-Year-Old's Elvis Infused Hank Williams Cover Sounds 'Straight Out of the Past'

The blind auditions on The Voice continue to showcase some pretty impressive talent on season 22, and night 6 was no exception. There was one country singer in particular who was so compelling he landed a three-chair turn from Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Camila Cabello, despite having a very traditional sound. Nineteen-year-old Austin Montgomery's rendition of Hank Williams' "I Can't Help It" was so cool, he had Stefani and Cabello desperate for him to join their teams -- even though they had no idea what the song was ... or who Hank Williams was.

When the judges turned and discovered how young Montgomery was, they were impressed and blown away by his musical stylings and his song choices. John Legend asked what he listened to in order to lean in this musical direction, and Montgomery explained that he loves Jerry Lee Lewis, Hank Williams and Merle Haggard. "Everybody's grandpa would know," he joked.

When it came time to make their pitches, Shelton kicked things off by hilariously saying, "Austin. I think it would be very important if you would ask the three of us who sings that song you just performed." Both Stefani and Cabello laughed, saying that wasn't fair because they clearly had no idea who was behind the old country classic. Gwen even called her husband "a jerk" as the audience laughed in the background.

After explaining that the song was written and performed by Hank Williams Sr., Shelton said that if Austin chose him, the two of them could really do the competition right and said it was "a gift" to have someone as unique as him on the show. But Cabello wasn't giving up without a fight. She tried to connect with the young singer by saying she was familiar with Jerry Lee Lewis and even detected some Elvis Presley in his voice. Gwen tried next, saying he sounds like he's "straight from the past" and that they could be a good fit because of all of his character and style.

As if it was even up for debate, Austin chose Team Blake. Even Stefani admitted that she'd love to work with him, but if he wasn't going to choose her, he needed to go with her husband just because of all of the country music expertise he has to offer. It's safe to say he made the right choice! Hopefully, Shelton chooses some fun oldies for Austin to sing this season that will really set him apart from the competition.
