Rock-and-roll icon Tom Petty died on Monday night after suffering a massive cardiac arrest in his Malibu, Calif. home on Monday. He was 66.

Petty's manager Tony Dimitriades shared a statement after he passed.
"On behalf of the Tom Petty family we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. He died peacefully at 8:40pm PT surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends."
Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers had been traveling across the country for of their extensive 40th-anniversary tour.
His music helped shape many corners of modern country music, from Nashville's current sound to Red Dirt and Texas country.
