Trader Joe's Fall Harvest Salsa and Pumpkin Tortilla Chips Are the Perfect Fall Appetizer

Everyone down south knows salsa and tortilla chips are a complimentary appetizer at most Tex-Mex restaurants. I can honestly say I torture a basket or two of chips and salsa before my meal is brought out. Salsa is a perfect appetizer and snack year-round. Although, pumpkin salsa might be the go-to salsa just in time for fall.

Trader Joes' Fall Harvest Salsa is blended with our favorite vegetables. Jalapeños, red peppers, tomatoes, cumin, and onion are a few ingredients in the fall-inspired salsa recipe. Salsa is normally considered a savory appetizer because of its ingredients, but the pumpkin, apples, and butternut squash give it the perfect balance of salty, spicy, and sweet.

A drizzle of pumpkin spice salsa on tacos is the perfect kick! Not only will it make a perfect salsa for homemade meals, but I can definitely see myself adding a few spoonfuls to my Chipotle bowls. Forget avocado, I just need pumpkin salsa on the side of each meal all fall.

I know if I pour pumpkin salsa into my salsa and tortilla chip bowl, the entire 12-ounce jar will be gone in one sitting. If you happen to have self-control, be sure to refrigerate your salsa after opening it.

"Why would you finish a jar of pumpkin salsa in one sitting?" Well, Trader Joe's is testing me. Not only do they have pumpkin salsa, but they also have pumpkin tortilla chips as well. Luckily, I didn't find this pairing during the summer. This is the time of the year where I don't feel guilty for binge snacking.

Trader Joe's Pumpkin Tortilla Chips

No one's going to see my pumpkin pounds under my Christmas sweater. Therefore, I'm stocking up on Trader Joe's Fall Harvest Salsa and pumpkin chips. The tortilla chips are gluten-free! They're made from pumpkin puree and pumpkin seeds.

This may be a seasonal item. Stock up, or add a can of pumpkin to your go-to salsa recipe. Here's what you'll need for a restaurant style salsa:

    • 1 28-oz can whole plum tomatoes
    • 1 small onion
    • 3 garlic cloves
    • 2 jalapeno peppers
    • 1/2 cup cilantro
    • 1 tsp cumin
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 2 limes, juiced

Follow the recipe here for instructions.

Pumpkin recipes are trendy and fun during the last few months of the year. I'm used to pumpkin flavored drinks and desserts, but I love the pumpkin twist as a pairing for Mexican cuisine.
