Trisha's Southern Kitchen

In the Food Network show, Trisha Yearwood makes yummy recipes with a Southern twist. Her dessert recipes in particular look delectable, like her no bake ricotta espresso cheesecake, peanut butter brittle and pecan pie. Having Ree Drummond there to help only makes it better!

Her chocolate pie recipe includes a sleeve graham crackers, sugar, unsalted butter, a cup milk, all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, large eggs, unsalted butter, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and kosher salt. It looks chocolatey and rich, perfect for chocolate-lovers who enjoy desserts like chocolate pudding, chocolate cake, chocolate cream pie and brownies.

The video starts off with Trisha delegating the tasks; she'll make the filling while Ree Drummond makes the graham cracker crust. Trisha says that she grew up eating chocolate pie with a pastry pie crust rather than a graham cracker one, but that she loves this version. They then discuss the varieties of pie crusts, sharing their tricks and ingredient substitutions.

Like many of her recipes, Trisha's chocolate pie is a piece of history and nostalgia for her, as it reminds her of going to buffet diners as a kid and watching her dad pile as much onto the tray as humanly possible. While separating egg yolks, she describes how as a kid, she always looked at the delicious pies and vowed to eat dessert no matter how full she was by the end of the meal.

Ree, a dessert lover herself, is fully on board with making a decadent chocolate pie, using liberal amounts of melted butter to make it even tastier. When Trisha compliments her pie crust, she says "I just like being around graham cracker crusts" in a classic Ree moment.

Trisha makes the filling on a medium saucepan over medium heat while Ree uses the food processor for the crust. When the chocolate filling is ready, Ree jokes that they don't even need a pie crust, saying "why'd we even make a crust?"

Trisha agrees, saying maybe they should just dip the crust in, and then they agree that they would be "dangerous together on a daily basis," and that they "can't be trusted more than once or twice a year."

Once they've finished their tasks, they put the pie in the refrigerator for 45 minutes to chill, and start on the meringue. As they make it, they discover that neither of their husbands like meringue. Trisha and Ree agree that it's either an "Oklahoma boy thing" or a "cowboy thing" to not like meringue. I could watch them joke and bake together all day!

After putting the meringue on, Trisha says to bake chocolate pie until the meringue topping is golden brown. The end result is beautiful, and they dig in excitedly. Get the full recipe at foodnetwork.com!
