Kamala Harris is best known for being the Vice President of the United States, along with being a highly successful attorney and politician. However, it turns out that she has a secret talent-making an incredibly delicious tuna melt sandwich!

A Classic American Sandwich
The tuna melt sandwich is a quintessential American meal, one that brings many of us right back to our lunchbox days. This tasty comfort food is essentially a hybrid of a grilled cheese sandwich and a tuna salad sandwich, and it is truly the best of both worlds. A tuna sandwich grilled until golden brown and melty? Count me in.
The classic tuna melt recipe involves tuna fish, cheese, chopped onions, mayonnaise, dill pickles or pickle relish, and white bread. You can broil it on a baking sheet to get that melty goodness or cook on the stovetop on medium heat. Some go for sourdough bread, whole grain bread, a bagel, or even an English muffin- you can't really go wrong when it comes to tuna melts. You can cook it in butter, olive oil or even mayonnaise!
You can also add tomato slices or green onion for extra veggies, along with choosing your favorite cheese, whether it's Swiss cheese, mozzarella, cheddar or American. Some even go for an open-face version with only one slice of bread. Our vice president's tuna melt sandwich is a little unconventional, with a few extra flavorings like lemon juice and parsley, but this only makes it look more delicious.
Kamala Harris' Perfect tuna Melt Sandwich
Last year, Kamala Harris decided to give senator Mark Warner a tutorial on how to make the best tuna melt sandwich, after seeing his struggle to make one that was "a hot mess." Harris' husband, Doug Emhoff, held the camera while Kamala Harris shared her elaborate tuna melt recipe on Instagram live.

The video is full of joking and banter from the start. Kamala begins by saying "I just wanna show everybody how to make a tuna sandwich!"
The vice president's ingredients include slices of bread, canned tuna, mayonnaise, dijon mustard, celery, red onion, parsley, black pepper, lemon juice, and a few slices of cheddar cheese. The prep time looks minimal, with a total time of around ten minutes.
She begins by opening the tuna can, announcing "tuna in a can!" and then draining out the water. Then, Harris transfers the tuna to a medium bowl. Next, she chops up celery, cutting each stalk lengthwise and then dicing into smaller pieces.
Harris mashes the tuna up, and then starts on the red onion. This part is amazing- her method of dicing red onion is truly worthy of a TikTok cooking hack!
Then, she emphatically says to mix the mayonnaise in with the tuna. At this point, she and Warner get into it about mayonnaise brands, as he is curious about which kind she chose. Harris explains that, due to the covid-19 pandemic, she couldn't find Hellman's and had to go with the Whole Foods brand.

Harris then adds a spoonful of dijon mustard to the tuna mixture, to which Warner jokes "you are definitely Northern California!"
For extra flavor, she says to "jazz it up" with a little bit of parsley. Then, add some black pepper and just a squeeze of lemon. At this point, Harris holds up her cheddar cheese slices, which appear to be sharp cheddar.
Warner asks if she's a "two slice man," affirming that he definitely uses more than one slice of cheese. She shows two slices and says that she sliced the cheese herself, but adds "You can get the packaged kind, that's fine, that's fine. I'm not mad at you, I get it."

Kamala Harris and Mark Warner continue their facetious banter, as she tells him "this is a toaster" and "this is called a skillet."
Finally, Harris compiles her sandwich, completing her tuna melt recipe. She says to add more mayonnaise to the bread and then place the lettuce, cheddar slices and tuna salad onto the bread. Then, she says to put mayonnaise on the outside of the bread, put it on the skillet and cook until golden brown, and bon appetit!
Warner jokingly responds, "Well Kamala, it's not the way I was raised..." and then Kamala cuts in with "Mark you have two kitchens, you told me that! I'm not listening to you." At the end of the video, Warner jokes that the viewers now know that
"Your United States legislators can not only pass the legislation but can feed the masses." This is certainly true of Kamala Harris, but I can't imagine many who would trust Warner after seeing his sad attempt at a tuna melt.
