Van's Waffles Sold in 11 States Recalled for Mislabeled Packaging

Van's Foods is recalling more than 1,500 cases of waffles that were incorrectly packed in boxes labeled as gluten free because the product contains the allergens gluten and milk. A production line making Van's Belgian Waffles, containing gluten and undeclared milk, packaged the product in boxes meant for Van's Gluten Free Waffles. People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to gluten or milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

The Van's food recall stems from incorrectly packaged boxes that were distributed to grocery stores and other food retailers in 11 states: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.

If you bought Van's waffles at a store in one of these states, check the label. Boxes with the affected product will say Van's Gluten Free Original and will be marked with the UPC code  8994730206 and "Product Lot #A640234710-WL2, BEST BY AUG 22, 2018."

Van's Food Recall

The waffles were ordered and shipped to retail outlets as "Van's Belgian HS WF, Item number 30201, Product Lot #A640234710-WL2, BEST BY AUG 22, 2018." Retailers should check their stock to see if it includes the product involved in the packaging mix up.

The Van's Food recall is voluntary on the company's part and neither Van's nor the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have received any reports of illness or adverse reactions to the recalled waffles.

If you did purchase the recalled waffles or if you have questions, you can contact Van's Consumer Relations department at 1-866-886-8456 for additional information and/or reimbursement. The company noted that recall does not include Van's Gluten Free waffle packages that include a code containing WL1.

This recall is one in a stretch of food recalls over the last month including a serious warning from the FDA, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention about romaine lettuce.
