How to Make White Chocolate Cake

For this recipe, you'll need the following ingredients: egg whites, all-purpose flour, baking powder, a white baking chocolate bar (chopped up), half-and-half (or cream or milk if that's what you've got on hand), butter or margarine, sugar, vanilla/vanilla extract, and egg yolks.

If you want to add some fancy extras, consider adding buttercream frosting or white chocolate frosting, powdered sugar/confectioner's sugar, white chocolate chips, or melted white chocolate drizzle on top of the cake. But to keep it simple, stick to the previous ingredient list.

Let your egg whites sit at room temperature for 30 minutes in a mixing bowl. As you're waiting for them to settle and warm up, grease and then flour two round baking or cake pans. Put the pans to the side, then stir the flour, baking powder, and salt together before setting aside the dry ingredient mixture, too.

Next, melt your white baking bar of chopped up chocolate in a saucepan with 1/4 cup of half-and-half over low heat. You're going to want to stir it continuously but slowly and allow the baking bar to melt. Remove from heat and keep stirring until the baking bar is melted and smooth. Add in the remaining half-and-half and let the white chocolate mixture cool.

In a larger bowl, beat the butter with an electric mixer or stand mixer on medium to high speed for around half a minute. Add in your sugar and vanilla and beat until they are combined, then slowly add each egg yolk. Next, add the dry flour mixture and the white baking bar mix, beating the entire concoction on low speed to medium speed each time you add a bit more.

Clean off your beaters, then beat the egg whites with your mixer on high speed until you see stiff peaks. Add egg whites into the batter, then spread it in the prepared pans.

Finally, onto the baking! You're going to bake the white chocolate cake in an oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about half an hour, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Easy, right?

When the cake is ready, let it cool off on wire racks for around 10 minutes, then remove it from the pans and let it cool even more before serving. Frost with whatever covering you think would fit the cake best.

Once you've mastered this recipe, you can try white chocolate cupcakes, more complicated chocolate layer cakes, white chocolate brownies, and other dark chocolate desserts your friends are sure to rave about. Why not try a whole flight of ganaches, with white chocolate ganache through dark chocolate, or something more intense? Beats regular old birthday cake any day, right?
